Pirin, Bansko and around

As a mighty wall Pirin divides the region in two parts: Southwestern that comprises the Struma river valley, and Northeastern that comprises the Mesta river valley. The climate difference between the north and the south of Pirin is significant: while trees bloom to the south in Kresna, Bansko is still under winter frost.

Due to its unique biologic diversity and impressive nature formations of Pirin, the government of the Republic of Bulgaria has defined an area of more than 40 000 hectares in the mountain as protected territory – Pirin National Park. This bit of nature is priceless Bulgarian and world wealth included in the UNESCO Man and the Biosphere Program.
In the Park Pirin area are located different kind summer and winter attractions.  The summer mountain fanciers can enjoy different kind of adventures.
-Fishing: On the territory of Pirin National Park fishing is allowed in strict observance of the regime and standards for amateur fishing as set out in the park management plan.
- Mountain biking: Bansko Municipality constructed new bike lane under grant agreement within the project “Establishment of Cross-Border Cultural Cooperation”, which is 2250 m long from the city of Bansko to St. Nikola archeological complex.
-Horse riding: All tourists who want to enjoy horse riding may choose between terrain riding or tourist trips with horses across Pirin. 
- Rock climbing: We offer all fans of extreme experiences and seekers of excitements to feel the touch with the mountain and to try rock climbing. This type of sport activities, which is integral part of the life in the mountains, is organized in Peshterite location 3 km away from Bansko. 
-Off Road Routs: The crossed mountain and forest terrain of Pirin allows different routеs for off-road vehicles full of emotions and adrenalin

Churches in Bansko and the region - St. Trinity Church, St. Petar and Pavel Church in Dobrinishte, Monastery "St. Panteleimon".  When you visit Bansko do not miss the churches and monasteries in the area. Places amalgamating the history and beauty of the various icon-painting schools.

Atractions -   Attraction Steam Engine and the Narrow gauge railway Septemvri – Bansko of BDZ is the only functioning narrow gauge railway in Bulgaria. The spacing is 760mm. The distance of 125 km between the first and the final station is taken for about 5 hours with average speed of 25 km/h. The narrow gauge railway is used both by the inhabitants of the municipality and as a tourist attraction.
Kitchen - Diverse and original, the Bansko cuisine is famous across Bulgaria with its stewed dishes, unique home-made sausages and appetizers. The most typical ones are kapama, chomlek, katino meze, banski starets, flat-sausage in Bansko style, and black pudding offered in all folk-style taverns and restaurants in Bansko. All these dishes and many other can be found in our mehana Momini Dvori.

Bansko in the winter - Bansko is approved European ski center. The following sport disciplines are practiced in the ski area: alpine skiing, cross country, biathlon, snowboard.
75 kilometers of professionally prepared and properly secured ski runs, as well as 22 kilometers modern lift facilities with great capacity that quickly and conveniently transport skiers to the starting point of each ski run, are available to skiers and snowboarders. The highest point of the ski center is 2560m, and the lowest 990 m.
